I love these packs.
I thru hiked the AT in 2008 with a Jam 50 and it is still being used to this day. While thru hiking I saw every type of pack fall apart except the Golite. I also thru hiked the PCT in 2010 with a 70 liter Jam and it also lasted the distance and is still in service. Also maybe I should mention I am a wilderness guide and I loan out these packs to guest on a regular basis. Enough said!

Best I've tried
I've had a Jam 70L for 2 years and usually carry between 25 and 30 lbs. in it. It has held up great with no breakdowns of any kind. I don't use the hydration sleeve so I put my my tent tarp in it. I roll my sleeping bag (Big Agnes with an air mattress) and put it in sideways along with a foam pad the same orientation and they add stiffness to the pack. Then I throw in my clothing sequentially so it comes out according to the layers I want when hiking. The pockets on the side hold my gloves, rain pants, water bottle and a couple of odds and ends. First aid, hygiene essentials and water filter go in the zippered pouch on the back along with some food stuff. The rest of the food goes in the top. I can get the weight down to less than 20 lbs. and then add a pound of food per day for backpacking. I haven't found a better system in 50 years of hiking and dozens of pack combinations. This thing is simple, tough, versatile and light. My day pack is a Jam 50L.

I bought this pack like everyone else, to reduce weight. As it turns out it's a durable and rugged pack as well. I've used mine on two 4 day Grand Canyon trips 33 miles in 4 days on the Tonto and it was beat to hell on the rocks. Just like the old timex commercial says, "It takes a lick'n and keeps on tick'n". I've also, so far, have logged approx. 160 miles on the AT with it. Great pack and good features at a great price.
