Men's Roan Plateau 800 Fill Down Hooded Parka

Pertex Quantum®

Pertex Quantum®

Using the finest yarns available with the maximum thread count, Pertex Quantum® has an extremely light, yet dense weave construction. Pertex Quantum® stands its ground with excellent tear and seam strength.

Premium Goose Down Fill

Premium Goose Down Fill

We use premium 800+ and 650+ fill power goose down in different products depending on the design and end-use. Down is still the most thermally efficient insulation available, providing more warmth for its weight than any other insulation available. Down is also superior in its drape, comfort, lifespan, and compressibility. All of our down is renewably managed using a hypoallergenic processing technique.

800 Fill Power
800+ fill power down is more compressible and provides a greater loft to weight ratio than 650+ fill power, and is used in our highest performance down products. We specify a 90/10 cluster to feather ratio for optimum loft and recovery.

650 Fill Power
Our 650+ fill power down is 15% loftier than the industry standard 550+ fill power down and exhibits excellent compressibility and recovery characteristics. We process it to an 85/15 cluster to feather ratio to emphasize maximum recovery from compression.

Very warm, but sleeves too short.
I really like the jacket, especially the way it zips up around your neck, with the hood still hanging down. However, I wish the sleeves were longer. I had to get a size too big in the body in order for the sleeves to be the correct length.

Excellent Parka
Just took the Roan Parka up Mount Washington, NH and it truly stood up to the elements. I'm very pleased with the parka and its features: the elastic wrist sleeves keep that warmth in, the chest pockets are nicely placed, and the hood tightens beautifully for my cold ears. The color was true from the website and the fit is spot on. One critique is that the down strip on the inside of the zipper could be bigger to maximize that insulation on the chest, otherwise very satisfied.

Comfy, looks good, surprising durability
Only reason this isnt 5 stars is i was expecting it to be a bit warmer. Dont get me wrong, it is toasty, but it has a little lower wind resistance then other similar jackets, so you need a wind layer if its cold and windy. Surprisingly durable, as ive worn it in the woods and through briars and havent had any issues yet. I dont recommend trying it but good to know it wont tear too easily. Packs very small, and is very light. Definitely worth the purchase.

Cool spots
I like many of the features of this jacket and the price is great but there are some issues that compel me to return it. 1) The sleeves are not long enough. Admittedly I have a 37" sleeve length so many brands don't work. It's better than some, but could stand to be another inch longer. 2) The seams running under the arms have no insulation. Hence, you can feel the cold seeping in while the front side of your arm is warm. This is the downside of stitch-through baffles, but it seems like there must be some way to mitigate it. 3) There is large baffle under the collar and the down migrates to the bottom of it. The padded collar remains warm but I can feel a cool spot just below it in the middle of my back. Other than the aforementioned issues I like the look, weight, hood, and warmth of the properly insulated sections. With a few tweaks this jacket could be excellent. I'm hoping for some improvements in the next model year.

You Get What You Pay For
Golite likes to make it sound as though with this new "direct to consumer" sales model, you are getting more than your money's worth. I'd respectfully disagree. The workmanship/materials of this jacket are mediocre at best. The jacket I received had horribly cheap zippers, crooked seams, and many loose threads. On one of the cuffs, the seams were so poorly done (not hot-cut or properly doubled-over) that the shell material was visibly frayed straight out of the packaging. I contacted Golite about this poor quality a week ago and have yet to hear back from them (hint hint...). I've had other Golite products that were well made, so I'm rather disappointed in this jacket. I supposed when its on super sale for $100 it would be worth that much, but not at the normal price. Revamp your quality control, Golite!
