Our newly developed Tier 1 recycled polyester and nylon materials test to the same high standards as their conventional, non-recycled alternatives.  We use them whenever possible because of the massive reductions in energy use and resource consumption required to produce them vs. the virgin, petroleum-based alternatives.  More information can be found under ‘Performance Technology’ within ‘The Meaning of Lite’ section of this website.

Good pack, bad pockets
Good size and balance. Stretchy front panel and bungie work ok, and the side bottle pockets are nicely sized. The pack is a bit pear-shaped. When it's partially loaded, the contents shift to the bottom, which makes it difficult to stash items behind the front panel - it's a two-handed operation, otherwise the panel just barfs out whatever you're trying to push down into it. It works okay, but is frustrating in practice. Also the other little organizer pockets that need some serious work. The interior security pocket is too small. I don't know what they were thinking with the hipbelt pockets - way too small and no closure? Useless.

Messed up the hip belt
Had a pair circa 2010 that were great. Good balance, quality construction, excellent fit, etc. 5 stars..... But lost them in the Black Forest wildfire of 2013. Bought replacements, and the hip belt was re-engineered. They're no longer removable (that was a nice feature), and the pockets are smaller (yuck) with no zippers (why?). So don't plan on putting anything important in them. Now instead of quick access to a point-and-shoot or bar/gel, the only thing I trust in them are a tightly folded plastic bag for the dog "ahem." Two bags max, and even then they will tend to fall out. Bottom line: the hip belt pockets are now useless except for adding weight.
