After 3 hunting seasons in Montana, I have to say the Shangri-La 5 is one heck of a tent. I pack in spike camps to my hunting areas in some rugged country. The tent has come through in blizzards, sleet, rain and sustained high winds. Last month my brother and I hiked in some mountainous country. It had been raining and blowing for 4 days straight with not so much as a minute of letting up. The last night my bro and I spent in the tent the wind gusts on the mountain were around 70 mph...our SL5 was taking approx. 55 mph gusts all night and sustained 35 mph winds. The rain came down in sheets. The SL5 held up incredibly. It allowed our soaking bodies and gear to dry out and kept us dry. We pitched it low and used rock and pine to keep the bottom down. As everything was saturated for 3 days prior already, including the tent after I took it down to pack in my pack for another spike camp, the interior wall of the tent was wet with condensation and moisture. Trust this tent.

Bought this so that my young family of four (4 and 6 year olds) could start backpacking together. At 5lb 10oz it means about 1.35 lb of shelter per person... not bad at all. It came through for us. I'm impressed by the ease of set up. Great ventillation. Love the DAC stakes, although I bought a few more for a better set up. I think it really came with the bare minimum. I plan to make a ground sheet for it as well, as some of our campsites can be fairly rough. All in all, very happy with this tent, and It will fit the four of us nicely until my son starts asking for his own :)

I am completely satisfied with the Shangri La-5. It is my friends and I borrowed it to go bear hunting and testit in Kodiak conditions. It was so easy for setup in the wind and it took a good beating with 45 MPH gusts. I used alder to stake it down good and it held up well. It rained a lot and I stayed dry. Now I have been in the market to buy one but they are always sold out when i look. I need one for a 3 week sheep hunt this fall. I would borrow his again but he also has a sheep tag. It will be the only tent I need.
My recomendation to improve it more for higher winds is to put a tie loop on every vertical ribs to help deflect wind even better.

A friend brought this tent for a spring trip to Algonquin Park to use with 3 people (men). The tent worked great for the three of us. I could see it working for four people but not five. Set up was quick, and the tent withstood snow, rain, and high winds. Shock cord was added to the middle bottom tie-outs so the tent could be set higher and we did use additional guy ropes and pegs for stability.
Now I am just waiting for this tent to be back in stock so I can order my own.

I tried out this tent last weekend for the first time. I am impressed at how light it is for space you get we used both the nest and rain fly and fit 3 plus gear comfortably. It rained a little and everything stayed dry. The ventilation was good. The quality of the tent was good. I was surprised at how fast and easy it was to set up. I liked the adjustable stake loops. Overall I am very pleased with the tent and plan on using it a couple more times this month. When comparing this tent to others like it, the price is great as well as the quality.
